After Rashid Khan relinquished his captaincy, all rounder Mohammad Nabiya has been selected as the new captain of the team for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the UAE.

Nabi tweeted after the appointment, saying that at this critical stage, he admires the decision of Afghanistan Cricket Board for their announcement of being the captain of the National Cricket Team in the T20 Forma and added that together they will present a great picture of the country in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Rashid Khan, who is the world’s top ranked bowler in the T20I format decides to relinquish his post being the skipper of the team as he claimed that his “consent” was not taken while the selection process of the national team was going on. Rashid put out a statement on Twitter saying that as a captain and a responsible person, he reserved the right to be a part of the selection of the team but neither the selection committee nor the ACB had obtained his consent for the team which had been announced by ACB media. He added by saying that he is taking the decision to step down from the captaincy of the Afghanistan national side in the Twenty20 format but is still proud to play for his country nonetheless.

Wicketkeeper batsmen Mohammad Shahzad has been named in the squad. The two reserve players are Afasr Zazai and Farid Ahmad.

After domestic turmoil in the country due to the Taliban’s takeover of the country, the team’s future prospects look unsure as Australia have already decided not to play a test match with them due to the extremist group’s ruling about women’s sports not being allowed in this country.

But for now, they will have to focus on their series against Pakistan and will be placed in Group 2 along with heavyweights India and New Zealand.
