Tim Southee’s decision to bat first in the second Test was justified by Tom Latham and Devon Conway, who put on a 134-run partnership by Lunch on the first day.
With the exception of a few close shouts against each batter, Pakistan had little going their way the entire match. Hamza had another review go against him, this time against Conway, with the height denying Pakistan, while Latham, who was given out LBW on the field, was saved by an inside edge caught.
But the breakthrough arrived as Naseem appeared to be their key man. Latham missed the clip and was struck on the pads by a quicker from outside the crease. Conway considered reviewing for a long time but decided against it. The delivery was full, so there wasn’t much more to go after impact; otherwise, it would have crashed onto the leg stump. Latham made the right decision to not waste DRS.
