The South African skipper was happy that he lost the toss against the Aussies on Wednesday, as they were willing to chase as well. South Africa batted first and mounted a huge target of 311/7, with De Kock (109) scoring his second hundred in the tournament. The Proteas’ not only dominated the five-time world champions with bat but also henpecked them with the ball. Australia lost the match by 134 runs, losing all their wickets for 177 in the 41st over.
“I do think 311 was a couple over par; probably 290–300 was par. I guess I’m glad we lost the toss because we wanted to chase as well,” said Bavuma.
The SA skipper also praised De Kock for his fabulous innings as well as the bowlers for showing a stunning game on the field.
“I was scratchy with the bat; I found it hard, but Quinton de Kock needs to be given credit for the way he played. The bowlers bowled really well; they have been under some slap, but looking at all the phases, I think the guys really dominated. I’ll take that as our second game,” he added.
South Africa will face the Netherlands in their next game at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. While Australia will face Sri Lanka, both teams will make sure of a promising comeback at the BRSABVE Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
