Mohammad Kaif feels Ravichandran Ashwin can be a ‘valuable asset’ to the Indian T20 side

Former Indian Cricketer Mohammad Kaif feels Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin should be considered for the Indian T20 side due to his performances in the IPL this year. Ashwin has been a part of the Test team but has fallen out of favour in the shorter format. Both his last ODIs and T20s were vs the West Indies in 2017.

In T20 internationals, he has picked up 52 wickets in 46 matches at an average of 22.94 and an economy of 6.98 per over.

Ashwin took 13 wickets in 15 matches this year in the IPL at an average of 30.08 and an economy of 7.66 per over with his best figures being 3/29 in Qualifier 1 vs the Mumbai Indians.

Kaif expressed his opinion on Ashwin’s inclusion in the T20 squad via his official Twitter account. He tweeted, “Virat, Rohit, Pollard, Gayle, Warner, QDK, Karun, Buttler, Smith, Paddikal, Pooran. Read and re-read @ashwinravi99’s list of big scalps from IPL 13, mostly in power plays. Feel Ash can still be a valuable asset for India in T20Is.”

Ashwin has been included in the Test squad that travels to Australia for a 4 match Test series starting December 17.
