South African Cricketer, Lungi Ngidi recalls former Indian Captain, Mahindra Singh Dhoni’s key on-field decision during the finals of IPL 2018.
Four years later, Lungu Ngidi who was playing for CSK (Chennai Super Kings) in that finals, reveals MS Dhoni’s leadership decision in the game which gave him the much-needed wicket of Deepak Hooda. Ngidi was economical in the match as he records figure 1/26 and took the wicket of Hooda in the 17th over.
The 25-year-old said that Dhoni automatically changed the fieldset which led to the wicket. It was the final against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018, and they had not talked over the field placement but Dhoni automatically changes Ngidi’s fieldset and within a couple of balls, the team got the wicket to the fielder which Dhoni had placed.
For Ngidi, this moment is one thing that has got stuck in his mind. In a final where Dhoni executes the plan which he had faith in, gave Ngidi confidence on how to bowl. It showed Ngidi how in tune Dhoni is with the game as to how he sees it’s going to play out and that played out exactly the way he thought would happen.
“I think the main thing is just the control that he has over the team and on the field, he does bring a sense of calm. I have also learned a lot more in the time that I have been with CSK just under his captaincy in terms of field settings, game plan, and how to construct my bowling within an inning. I think from that moment it has helped me “grow as a cricketer”, Ngidi further said to Times Now.
