In a dramatic turn of events during the Ranji Trophy match between Mumbai and Assam at the BKC Ground, Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane faced a rare occurrence in his 16-year professional career as he was given out for obstructing the field. Rahane, batting on 18, was involved in a controversial run-out scenario when Assam appealed for obstructing the field after a throw hit him while attempting to return to the crease.
Initially ruled out by the on-field umpire, Assam later withdrew their appeal during the tea break. As per cricket laws, an appeal for dismissal must be withdrawn before the next ball is bowled, and fortunately for Rahane, the appeal was revoked during the break. Consequently, Rahane returned to the crease but couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity, eventually being bowled by the same bowler for 22 runs.
Despite the twist in Rahane’s innings, Mumbai’s dominance in the Ranji Trophy remains intact as they lead Group B with 30 points, securing their spot in the quarter-finals with four wins, one draw, and a loss from six games.
