After a dismal outing in the first two matches, India has finally managed to put up a 50 run partnership for the first wicket in this tournament. India came into the tournament as the hot favorites especially after the great display of batting prowess they showed in the warmup games, but the story changed drastically when the league stage started.
In their very first match against Pakistan, they put up a dismal show of batting after losing early wickets. They lost 3 wickets in powerplay at the score of 36, after which they were not able to sustain the inning and could only put up a meager total of 151. The second match had a similar story, as they could only manage 35 runs in their powerplay and lost 2 wickets. The final score in the match against New Zealand was dismal as they could only accumulate 110 runs in their 20 overs.
Coming into the game against Afghanistan, nobody was expecting a change in the plot, considering the formidable bowling attack that Afghanistan possessed. The Indian batters too came prepared for the same, as a result, together Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul put up a great show for India. They took the Afghanistan bowlers, pacers, and spinners alike for a ride around the park to bring up the first 50 runs opening partnership for India in this tournament.
The duo wasn’t done though, as they kept up the good work even after the powerplay. Both Rahul and Rohit continued playing the way they had started and even brought up the 100 runs’ partnership for the team. Even the batters brought up their first half-centuries of the tournament.
