In the current Super-12 encounter between Australia and New Zealand at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday, Devon Conway struck 92 not out off 58 balls as New Zealand scored 200 for 3 in 20 overs. This is New Zealand’s highest total in the T20 World Cups with 198/5 against Ireland, and 191/3 against Bangladesh being second and third.
Finn Allen earlier gave New Zealand a great start with a 42-run innings off only 16 balls after Australia captain Aaron Finch won the toss and chose to bowl first. New Zealand’s scoring rate dropped as soon as Josh Hazlewood bowled Allen. Conway later increased the side’s power to 200, though. With stats of 2 for 41 in four overs, Josh Hazlewood was the standout bowler.
“Got a call last night (being included in the XI) and had the night to sleep on it and get ready for today. We talked about throwing the first punch and not letting them settle early. It was just committing to that and being fearless. It’s a good competitive score. We’ve done half the job, hopefully we can finish it off,” said Finn Allen.
