Senior fastmen Ishant Sharma posted a heartfelt note for Virat Kohli after he stepped down from Test captaincy on Saturday. Ishant Sharma was with former Indian skipper Virat Kohli since earlier days when he (Kohli) was a child recalled a conversation with him during the 2017-18 South Africa tour where he told him that India need to win Tests in overseas conditions.
After the proteas tour in 2018, India started playing an attacking style of cricket and enjoyed great success. In recent times, India has registered Test Series Win on Australian soil and dominated the home side in England last year.
“Thank you for all the memories I’ve shared with you in the dressing room and on and off the field since childhood, where we never thought that you would be our captain and I’ll play 100 test matches for India,” Ishant Sharma posted on his Instagram official account.
Indian was ranked 7th in the test ranking when he was named the captain and stepped down with India peaking in the Test rankings.
Earlier last year Kohli stepped down as the T20I captain after an unsuccessful ICC T20 World Cup and was later axed from the ODI captaincy too and the selectors gave control of the white ball cricket to Rohit Sharma. While no one thought Kohli could step down as the test captain, on Saturday his announcement shocked the cricketing world.
