For the last end number of years, Chennai Super Kings were stripped off the tournament for 3 years continuously, but has now come back in the Indian Premier League and has made an immediate statement this year. They are the favourites to win the inaugural trophy this year held in Dubai. MS Dhoni development and performance with the team franchise has drastically not been at its best and never had the best of the outings. 2020 was also the year which was the worst season in the history for the Chennai Super Kings, where MS Dhoni managed to score just 200 runs in total after playing 14 matches.
We all remember MS Dhoni sensational and supreme captaincy on the pitch and off the game. Unlike after the embarrassing last season by the team, he still led Chennai Super Kings brilliantly and amazingly with the first team to qualify for the playoffs this year and also winning the trophy as a three-time winner.
South African bowler Dale Steyn said in his statement on ESPNCricinfo that “He is the boss of Chennai. When you think Chennai, you think MS Dhoni. If he smashes the winning runs in the final, you can guarantee that he will be taking the gloves for Chennai in next year’s IPL”
It will be very interesting to see, if MS Dhoni will play anymore an important role for the Chennai Super Kings, with the mega IPL auction going to be conducted in the year 2022. Teams are only allowed to retain 3 of their main players and with Dhoni already retired from international cricket, there were several questions put down about his future for the IPL.
The introduction of two more teams for the next season of the IPL will be a game-changer and will make a huge turn. South African bowler Dale Steyn feels that even though the skipper missed his performance with the bat, he could still have a huge chance to return for CSK next season.
