Shreyas Iyer’s poor form is increasingly becoming a cause for concern for his fans and his franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The batsman scored a duck against Sunrisers Hyderabad in KKR’s first match. He has been out of form since the 2024 World Cup, and he has only shown glimpses of redemption during Mumbai’s final match of the Ranji Trophy. KKR lost early wickets in the form of Sunil Narine, Venkatesh Iyer, Shreyas Iyer, and Nitish Rana. The side was reduced to 49-3 when Rana lost his wicket to Mayank Markande.

Shreyas Iyer will most likely aim to make a comeback in the next match, but much depends on identifying his weakness. A fan, however, has spotted Shreyas Iyer’s vulnerability and highlighted two instances when Iyer lost his wicket in a similar fashion. A fan with the Twitter handle “Ronit Raj” has noticed that Shreyas Iyer lost his wicket cheaply while attempting a drive, as he did when he scored a duck right at the start of the 2024 World Cup.

Aside from identifying his weakness, fans couldn’t refrain from criticizing the batsman for his inconsistency and attitude. Shreyas Iyer had previously been removed from his central contract by the BCCI for refusing to participate in the Ranji Trophy after withdrawing himself from the home Test series against England. Although the batsman had reported a back injury, he had been given clearance by the BCCI’s medical team. Shreyas Iyer joined Kolkata Knight Riders in 2022. Last year, he was absent for the entire tournament due to injury, relinquishing the captaincy to Nitish Rana. He has played 15 matches for KKR so far, scoring 400 runs with a batting average of 400 runs.
