TATA IPL 2022: Virat Kohli to switch batting position to overcome poor form

Faf Du Plessis won the toss for Royal Challengers Bangalore and chose to bowl first.

Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf Du Plessis announced after winning the toss that they’ve made a change in today’s match, with Virat Kohli moving to the top and being the opening batsman alongside him, hoping that this would make Virat overcome his poor form in the season so far.

Kohli does have the best average and strike rate while hitting anywhere in the No. 5 spot in the 207 matches he has played. He has a total of 2750 runs to his credit as an opener, with an average of 43.65 in 76 games and a strike rate of 136.68. Kohli, on the other hand, has scored 2815 runs at an average of 35.19 and a strike rate of 123.79 while batting at No. 3.

RCB made one change, with Rajat Patidar replacing the out-of-form Anuj Rawat. Patidar made a few appearances for RCB previous season, scoring a pair of 31 against Capitals and Punjab Kings, batting at No. 3 both times.

Rajasthan Royals have made two changes, with Daryl Mitchell and Kuldeep Sen replacing Karun Nair and Obed McCoy. So far this season, the blazing form of Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, and Shimron Hetmyer has mostly covered it up, but the Royals continue to lack batting depth, with R Ashwin placed at No. 7.

The third-placed Rajasthan Royals will face the fifth-placed Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 39th match of the Indian Premier League 2022. Both teams have ten points, but RCB has had the benefit of having played an additional game. They’re also coming off a loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad, who bowled them out for 68 three days ago.
