Gill’s post after CSK defeat sparks debate
Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill drew attention after his side beat Chennai Super Kings by eight wickets in IPL 2026 at Chepauk. GT chased down 159 with ease, powered by Sai Sudharsan’s 87 and useful knocks from Gill (33) and Jos Buttler (39 not out).
After the match, Gill posted a picture from the team flight holding a yellow whistle, captioned “Nandri Chennai”. The phrase means “thank you” in Tamil. The post quickly spread online and split opinion, with some fans reading it as light-hearted and others viewing it as a dig after a heavy home defeat for CSK.
Gill’s intent and dressing room mood
Gill, however, kept his tone measured after the game. He called it one of GT’s most complete performances, apart from a slight dip in the final overs of their fielding effort. He also admitted there was confusion at the toss before they chose to bowl first.
GT’s decision paid off as Kagiso Rabada’s 3 for 25 helped restrict CSK to 158 for 7. Gill said the powerplay execution remained a key strength, while finishing overs was still an area to tighten.
CSK struggle to build momentum at Chepauk
Chennai Super Kings never found fluency with the bat and finished on 158 for 7. Ruturaj Gaikwad top-scored with 38, but lacked support as wickets kept falling at regular intervals. The surface offered grip for the seamers early on, making stroke-making difficult.
Gaikwad later admitted CSK misread conditions, saying the pitch was hard to assess and his side were slow to adjust. By the time they tried to rebuild, GT had already taken control through disciplined bowling and sharp fielding.
