TATA IPL 2022: Rashid Khan becomes first Afghanistan player to take 100 IPL wickets

Along with Amit Mishra and Ashish Nehra, he is the joint-third fastest player in the IPL to reach 100 wickets, having taken in 83 matches.

With the dismissal of Venkatesh Iyer in Indian Premier League 2022 match against Kolkata Knight Riders in Navi Mumbai on Saturday, Gujarat Titans star Rashid Khan achieved a remarkable milestone, becoming the first Afghan player to take 100 IPL wickets in the T20 franchise league, where he has been playing since 2017.

Khan then flew it below Shivam Mavi’s bat in the 16th over, rattling his stumps. He also got Umesh Yadav, who was supposed to be given LBW but was denied due to DRS. As a result, Khan’s final score was 4-0-22-2.

Khan is the 16th bowler to reach 100 wickets in the IPL with these two wickets. Dwayne Bravo of the Chennai Super Kings leads the table with 179 wickets in 158 matches. After Bravo, Lasith Malinga, and Sunil Narine, Khan is the fourth international player to take 100 wickets in the IPL.

Gujarat Titans beat Kolkata Knight Riders by eight runs to win their sixth game of the season and reclaim the top spot in the points table.
