Sunrisers Hyderabad faced a worrying moment during their match against Rajasthan Royals when star pacer Mohammed Shami appeared to injure himself while attempting a catch. The incident occurred during the 6th over of the Royals’ innings when Sanju Samson miscued a shot off Pat Cummins.
Shami, positioned at short fine leg, reacted quickly and stretched his left hand to complete a sharp catch. However, he couldn’t hold onto the ball, and more importantly, looked in immediate discomfort following the attempt. Visibly in pain, Shami clutched his hand and soon walked off the field for medical attention.
Commentator Navjot Singh Sidhu, on air at the time, remarked that Shami might be taken for an X-ray, suggesting the possibility of a more serious injury. Given Shami’s importance in SRH’s pace attack, especially on a flat Hyderabad pitch, any extended absence could be a significant blow to the franchise.
As of now, no official update has been provided on the extent of the injury. Fans and team management will be hoping for a minor setback and a swift recovery.
