The 34th match of IPL 2025 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has been delayed due to persistent rainfall in the city. As of 7:30 PM IST, the toss, originally scheduled for now, is yet to take place as drizzle continues to affect proceedings.
However, fans need not worry just yet. With Bengaluru’s advanced sub-air drainage system, the match is still very much on the cards if the rain halts within the buffer time. Historically, the stadium has successfully recovered from short spells of rain, thanks to quick-drying outfields and efficient ground management.
Before the game, RCB pacer Josh Hazlewood expressed confidence in the team’s bowling unit, especially during the powerplay. Speaking about the bowling combination, Hazlewood said, “Three of our quick bowlers are a little bit different. No matter who takes the new ball, we have got a role to play. They are great swing bowlers upfront. They are wicket-takers and I try to do my thing.”
He also reflected on the learning experience from matches held at the venue so far this season. “It’s been a great learning curve. Some guys have played a lot of cricket here, some haven’t played as much. We are always learning on the go,” Hazlewood noted.
When asked about bowling strategy, the Aussie pacer emphasized the basics. “Got to hit the good length, hit the top of stump. Need to go full and swing the ball in the powerplay,” he explained.
Local weather watchers had predicted potential rainfall, given the city has witnessed a wet spell over the past week. But as is often the case in Bengaluru, the showers might clear up just in time for cricket to resume.
With a vital two points on the line for both sides, fans will be hoping for the skies to clear up soon. Stay tuned for further updates as we await the start of play.
