The RCB vs LSG at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium was one of the most dramatic games ever witnessed in the history of IPL. The game not only broke multiple records but also gave the fans a nail-biting change of momentum in each delivery.
What happened initially?
LSG opted to bowl first, considering the pitch was dry and could benefit in the second innings for batting. Skipper Faf and veteran batter Virat Kohli stepped out as usual openers but performed unusually.
Virat’s fierce dominance was witnessed from the start as the veteran Indian batter geared up for a quick 50-run stand against LSG. Having successfully scored his half-ton, Virat Kohli finally had to walk off the pavilion after experienced spinner Amit Mishra came into the bowling attack. Faf du Plessis on the other hand was playing at a decent strike rate but the fans hope that the RCB captain might shift his gear from taking singles to hitting between the wickets.
Fad du Plessis smashes the longest six of IPL 2023
With a magnificent 115 metres hit in a Royal Challengers Bangalore game against Lucknow Super Giants at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Faf Du Plessis presently holds the record for the longest six in IPL 2023.
Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell smash all around the park –
Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis initially faced pressure the leg-spin bowlers in the match. Later, Faf du Plessis hit Ravi Bishnoi for 20 runs, which included the longest six of the 2023 IPL (115 meters). This encouraged both batsmen to aggressively attack the leg-spin bowlers, and even Mark Wood was hit for a few big sixes. Despite Maxwell getting out on the second last ball, the damage was already done as RCB set a huge target of 213 runs for LSG.
LSG losing 3 quick wickets inclined the game entirely to RCB but what happened next?
Mohammad Siraj dismissed the in-form Kyle Mayers, while Wayne Parnell took the wickets of Hooda and Krunal Pandya in the same over, resulting in three wickets in the powerplay.
Before Marcus Stoinis took on Harshal Patel and scored 17 runs off his first over, KL Rahul and Stoinis kept misfiring with the strike. After the initial blows, Stoinis led LSG’s counterattack and kept scoring. The Australian all-rounder reached his fifty off just 25 balls with a huge six off Shahbaz Ahmed, and he finished the 10th over with another six.
LSG lost crucial wickets but Ayush Badoni, Nicholas were the last hopes –
Stoinis tried to hit but Karn Sharma was confident in giving RCB a breakthrough just as Rahul and Stoinis appeared to be running away with it while attempting to hit too many sixes. Soon after Stoinis, KL Rahul’s flick towards the deep square leg was a failure.
Despite RCB’s outstanding batting of more than 200 runs, the game’s momentum was shifted when Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni stepped up consecutively to score more than 10 runs in every over (in the last 8–10 overs).
Ayush Badoni’s hit-wicket brought back RCB in the game
In one of the best scoop shots ever Ayush Badoni smashed a yorker delivery on Parnell’s over on the full and deposited it over fine leg for six. However, on the followthrough, he set up to swipe his stumps with the toe of the bat, leading to a hit wicket dismissal.
The last over drama –
The final over was the most dramatic in IPL history. LSG was predicted to have an easy time scoring runs, but Harshal Patel controlled the hitters despite RCB receiving the overtime penalty, which prevented them from keeping one more player outside the 30-yard line. The game was completely turned around when Harshal Patel was able to take two wickets. LSG lost 9 wickets before the ‘Mankad-miss’ – the most dramatic moment in IPL history was created.
Poor Harshal Patel will never forget this moment in his life when he was just inches away from grabbing a golden win but his hands didn’t reach towards the wicket, failing the batsman to get a mankad. With a quick single, LSG finished off the win in an incredible way.
