Lockie Ferguson, the fiery New Zealand pacer, has been acquired by Punjab Kings for Rs 2 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Known for his blistering pace and ability to trouble batters with sharp bouncers, Ferguson has been a consistent performer in the T20 format. His inclusion in Punjab Kings’ lineup adds depth and experience to their bowling unit, making him a valuable addition to the squad.
Ferguson’s IPL journey began in 2017 with the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant, where he played four matches and picked up three wickets. Despite limited opportunities, he showcased his potential as a reliable pacer. Ahead of the 2018 season, Ferguson joined Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), where he spent three seasons. While his appearances were sporadic in the first two years, he made an impact in IPL 2021, claiming 13 wickets in just eight games.
In IPL 2022, Ferguson was part of the Gujarat Titans’ title-winning squad, contributing with 12 wickets in 13 matches. The following season, he was traded back to KKR but played only three games. In IPL 2024, he found a new home with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), where he picked up nine wickets in seven matches, further cementing his reputation as a dependable T20 bowler.
Punjab Kings secured Ferguson at his base price, highlighting his appeal as a seasoned campaigner who can deliver under pressure. With his ability to bowl at express pace and deliver in crucial moments, Ferguson is expected to play a pivotal role for Punjab Kings in the upcoming IPL season. This acquisition aligns with Punjab’s strategy to strengthen their pace attack, aiming to make a strong bid for the IPL title.
