Tilak Varma and Jamie Overton exchange words in tense passage
There was a brief flash of tension in the 10th over when Tilak Varma and Jamie Overton exchanged words after the final ball of the over. The discussion went on for a few seconds before the umpire stepped in and separated the players. Suryakumar Yadav also walked across, but things did not go further and calm returned quickly.
The incident came at a point when Tilak had started to settle into his innings. He had already hit a boundary earlier in the over and then added another crisp four through the off side. Most of his scoring was based on timing, using the width and placing the ball into gaps rather than forcing big shots.
MI lose early wickets as CSK control powerplay
Mumbai Indians’ chase of 208 began poorly and never really settled in the powerplay. They lost Danish Malewar for a duck and then Quinton de Kock soon after, both inside the first two overs. Akeal Hosein and Mukesh Choudhary did the early damage, making full use of the conditions and forcing mistakes with tight lines.
De Kock tried to counterattack with a six but was bowled shortly after, edging a swinging delivery back onto the stumps. That left MI under immediate pressure at 7 for 2, with Suryakumar Yadav arriving early at the crease.
MI rebuild slowly but ask keeps rising
Suryakumar and Tilak Varma tried to steady the innings, but the scoring rate stayed under pressure due to regular dot balls. CSK’s bowlers kept things simple, hitting hard lengths and not giving much width or pace to work with.
At the halfway stage, MI were 69 for 3, still needing a big partnership to get back into the chase. Suryakumar looked more settled than the others, while Tilak showed intent with boundaries but also had to absorb pressure. With the required rate climbing, Mumbai Indians were left needing control more than aggression to stay in the contest.
