Rain halts play after KKR lose early wickets
Play was stopped at Eden Gardens with Kolkata Knight Riders at 25 for 2 in 3.4 overs as rain intensified. The drizzle, which had lingered over the past two days, suddenly grew heavier, forcing the umpires to take the players off and bring on the covers.
The interruption came at a tricky moment for KKR, who were already dealing with early damage. Xavier Bartlett struck twice to leave the hosts under pressure, despite a brisk start in the opening over.
Slow rebuild interrupted by weather
Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi had begun to steady things with a cautious approach after the early wickets. The scoring slowed as they focused on rebuilding, with Bartlett keeping things tight from one end.
The weather, however, has added another layer of uncertainty. With rain around in the lead-up to the match, a delay always looked likely. The immediate question now is how much play will be possible and whether the conditions will shift the balance once action resumes.
No Varun and no Narine for KKR tonight. With Harshit and Pathirana already injured, that’s four of their five original starting XI bowlers missing, and Green not bowling, KKR are in serious trouble.
Ajinjkya Rahane: We are going to bat first. Looks a good wicket. Little bit on the dry side. But looks very good wicket. Slightly less grass on the surface that’s why we want to bat first.
Shreyas Iyer: Our (Shreyas and Ponting) chemistry blossomed from our Delhi Capitals days. He gives freedom to all the youngsters and he is an inspiration himself. Same team for us.
