Sameer Rizvi’s 90 powers Delhi to back-to-back wins
Sameer Rizvi delivered another decisive innings as Delhi Capitals chased down 163 against Mumbai Indians, winning by six wickets and securing their second straight victory of the season.
Rizvi struck 90 off 51 balls in a controlled yet aggressive knock, clearing the ropes seven times. He paced the chase with clarity, targeting the shorter boundary and punishing anything overpitched. The innings followed his unbeaten 70 off 47 in the previous game against Lucknow, where he had guided Delhi home under pressure.
Uncapped, but consistent
This was Rizvi’s third consecutive score of 50 or more in the IPL, placing him alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad and Prabhsimran Singh as uncapped batters to achieve the mark. His consistency at this stage of the tournament has given Delhi stability in the middle order.
The 90 is also the second-highest individual score by an Impact Player in IPL history, only behind Jos Buttler’s unbeaten 107 against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024.
Rizvi’s rise has been steady despite fluctuations in auction value. After being picked for ₹8.40 crore by Chennai Super Kings in 2024, he moved to Delhi Capitals for ₹95 lakh in the 2025 mega auction and was retained at the same price for 2026.
Delhi’s chase was set up around Rizvi’s control in the middle overs. He rotated strike early before accelerating, ensuring the required rate never climbed. With two wins on the trot, Delhi have found momentum, driven largely by an uncapped batter who continues to deliver under pressure.
Sameer Rizvi now holds the Orange Cap and has been named Player of the Match in both games, driving Delhi Capitals’ strong start to the season.
Orange Cap – Sameer Rizvi has made a sharp start to the season, scoring 160 runs from two matches at an average of 160.00 and a strike rate of 163.27. Across his two innings, he has struck 12 fours and 11 sixes, underlining his attacking approach and ability to score quickly in the middle order.
