Chennai Super Kings finished on 209 for 5 in 20 overs after being put in to bat by Punjab Kings. The innings was built around strong hitting in the middle and death overs, with the run rate finishing at 10.45.
The early loss of Sanju Samson for 7 did not slow CSK for long. Ayush Mhatre led the charge with a fluent knock, while Ruturaj Gaikwad added support at the other end before his dismissal.
The middle order then pushed the scoring further. A late surge saw CSK add 64 runs in the final five overs, with Shivam Dube finishing unbeaten on 45 off 28 balls, hitting key boundaries at the end.
Veer gets brief outing as bowlers struggle
Prashant Veer had a quiet outing, scoring 6 off 6 balls before the innings closed. He showed glimpses of intent but did not get a long opportunity at the crease.
Punjab’s bowlers worked in spells. Arshdeep Singh went for 41 runs in his four overs, while Marco Jansen picked up a wicket but conceded 43. Vijaykumar Vyshak and Xavier Bartlett also kept things tight at times but could not stop CSK from crossing 200.
CSK will now rely on their bowling unit to defend a strong total on a pitch that has already shown good pace and bounce for batting.
