Gujarat Titans returned to winning ways with a clear eight-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk. It was their fourth win of the season. The result lifts Gujarat to fifth on the table, with Chennai dropping a place after another loss.
Sai leads clinical chase
Sai Sudharsan set the tone with a controlled 87 off 46 balls, hitting 4 fours and 7 sixes. He played late and adjusted to the surface early, then opened up once set. Shubman Gill gave support with 33 off 23, striking 1 four and 3 sixes before being stumped. Jos Buttler finished unbeaten on 32 off 28 with 3 fours and a six.
Chennai’s bowlers failed to build pressure. Lengths were inconsistent and the spinners lacked control. Chances went down, including a dropped catch of Sudharsan that proved costly. The attack never recovered after the powerplay.
GT innings and CSK’s missed chances
Gujarat raced to 55 without loss in the first six overs. Gill attacked early, Sudharsan followed, and the chase stayed ahead of the rate. Even after Gill’s wicket, there was no slowdown.
CSK tried rotating bowlers but without success. The seamers leaked runs, while the spinners were taken apart once the ball softened. Poor fielding added to their problems. A dropped chance and a few misfields allowed Gujarat to stay in control.
Buttler played second fiddle but punished loose balls. Sudharsan kept finding boundaries, especially against spin. The chase never went beyond control, and the target was reached with 20 balls to spare.
Gaikwad alone in CSK innings
Ruturaj Gaikwad held the innings together with 74 off 60 balls, including 6 fours and 2 sixes. He started slowly but found boundaries later. There was little support from the other end.
Early wickets hurt Chennai. Sanju Samson and Urvil Patel fell inside the powerplay. Sarfaraz Khan was out first ball. Dewald Brevis did not last. The side slipped to 37 for 4.
Shivam Dube made 22 but was bowled trying to accelerate. Late hitting from Jamie Overton added 18 off 6 balls. Still, the total stayed below par given the slow start.
GT bowling keeps CSK in check
Gujarat’s bowlers controlled the first half. Kagiso Rabada took 3 for 25 and removed key batters early. Mohammed Siraj picked up Sarfaraz and kept it tight upfront.
Arshad Khan dismissed Dube and Overton at key moments. Manav Suthar removed Brevis. Jason Holder bowled tight spells without reward. The wickets fell at regular intervals, stopping any partnerships.
Chennai recovered late but not enough. Gujarat chased it down with ease to win by eight wickets.
