IPL 2024 CSK vs RCB: Virat Kohli becomes first Indian cricketer to score 12,000 T20I runs

Virat Kohli shattered an incredible record in the IPL 2024 season opener against Chennai Super Kings, becoming the first Indian cricketer to amass 12,000 runs in T20 cricket.

Since the inception of T20 cricket in 2008, Kohli has been a stalwart in the format, consistently delivering exceptional performances for Team India. Often compared to the legendary ‘master blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar, Kohli has seamlessly shouldered the responsibility of leading India’s batting lineup.

In the first game of the 2024 IPL season, Kohli set his sights on achieving this historic milestone. Just 6 runs away from the coveted 12,000-run mark, Kohli clinched the record with a single in the 7th over.

Making his T20I debut in 2010, Kohli quickly emerged as India’s leading run-scorer in the format, tallying 4,037 runs. In the IPL, he boasts an impressive record, accumulating a staggering 7,269* runs in 238* matches, which includes seven centuries and 50 half-centuries.

Other players who managed to achieve this milestone –

– Chris Gayle (14,562 runs)
– Shoaib Malik (12,993 runs)
– Kieron Pollard (12,390 runs)
