IPL 2023: Faf du Plessis falls short of a century as Nathan Ellis bags a wicket

Faf du Plessis continued his brilliant form and played another outstanding innings against Punjab Kings at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. However, his innings came to an end in the 18th over, as Nathan Ellis dismissed him for 84 runs off 56 deliveries.

Du Plessis started off slow and steady, but once he settled in, he went on to hit some delightful strokes all around the ground. He hit five fours and five sixes in his innings and ensured that RCB got off to a solid start. The way he accelerated after the initial phase was simply incredible, and he was well on his way to scoring a century.

However, in the 18th over, Nathan Ellis bowled a slower delivery, and du Plessis tried to hit it for a maximum. But unfortunately, he couldn’t get enough power behind the shot, and it ended up as a toe-end which went high in the air. Sam Curran, who was stationed at long-off, made no mistake and took a comfortable catch. It was a crucial breakthrough for Punjab Kings, as du Plessis was looking set to take the game away from them.

It is worth noting that just a ball before getting out, du Plessis hit a spectacular six off Ellis. The delivery was a back of the hand stuff, but du Plessis read it well and smashed it over long-on. It was a classic Faf du Plessis shot, and it showcased his skill and experience.
