In the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League 2022, Wanindu Hasaranga of Royal Challengers Bangalore holds a strong economy rate of 6.87 over Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan Royals.
RCB surprised everyone by not retaining star spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and then selling him in the big auctions, replacing him with Sri Lankan bowling all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga. The 24-year-old was signed for Rs 10.75 crore in the super auction, but with 25 wickets in 15 matches played thus far, he has more than justified his high price.
With his bowling, he has plagued the opposition batters and has been a continuous threat throughout the match. Hasaranga has impressed with his fielding and is a useful batter in the lower order, in addition to being the tournament’s second top wicket-taker.
RR has won 11 of the 26 meetings between the two teams, while RCB has won 13 of them. RR has won four matches in a row since 2018, while RCB has won five.
RR skipper, Sanju Samson’s batting record against Wannindu Hasaranga is dreadful. Hasaranga defeated Samson twice in the league stage matches between RCB and RR. Against the Sri Lankan spinner, Samson could only muster 16 runs in two innings. Hasaranga bowled 16 balls to the RR hitter, and he only managed to hit one boundary and two sixes. Against Samson, the leg spinner has bowled nine dot balls.
