Pacer Mohammed Shami played a crucial role in Gujarat Titans’ victory over the Sunrisers Hyderabad, taking four wickets and helping his team secure a spot in the IPL 2023 playoffs. With his impressive performance, Shami also claimed the Purple Cap as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker, having taken 23 wickets so far.
Shami, along with teammate Mohit Sharma, wreaked havoc on the Sunrisers’ batting lineup by sharing eight wickets between them. During the Powerplay, Shami made significant breakthroughs by dismissing Anmolpreet Singh, captain Aiden Markram, and Rahul Tripathi. Later in the 17th over, he completed his four-wicket haul by removing the in-form Heinrich Klaasen. On the other hand, Mohit dismantled the lower-middle order of the Sunrisers, taking four wickets for 28 runs, dismissing Sanvir Singh, Abdul Samad, Marco Jansen, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
After the match, Shami praised Mohit’s contribution, emphasizing the importance of having variations in the bowling unit. He expressed that with Mohit’s inclusion, the team’s chances of winning are boosted, especially when combined with the already impressive performances of Noor and Rashid.
When asked about his success this season, Shami humorously attributed it to the food he has been consuming. Responding to commentator Ravi Shastri’s question about his diet, Shami jokingly mentioned that being in Gujarat, he cannot find his preferred food.
“Gujarat mein hun, mera khana nahi milega na.” (I’m in Gujarat, I won’t get the food I like).
However, he quickly added that he has been enjoying the local Gujarati cuisine.
“Lekin Gujrati food enjoy kar raha hun.” (However, I’m enjoying Gujarati cuisine).
Shami also shared his bowling strategy, highlighting the importance of hitting the right areas and making the most of the new ball. He credited his success to repeatedly executing this approach throughout the matches.
