“Couldn’t risk the birth of my first child”- Kane Richardson on his decision of opting out of IPL 2020

Kabe Richardson who was brought by Royal Challenger Bangalores for the 13th edition of the IPL has opted out of the season. The Australian bowler opted out to be there for the birth of his first child.
Earlier this week the franchise announced Adam Zampa as the replacement for the Australian paceman.

In an interview with ESPNCricinfo, Richardson has said that while it is “always difficult” to make a decision such as this, his family will always remain a priority. “Just the challenge around getting home on time for something as unpredictable as the birth of a child, I couldn’t risk missing that. It’s disappointing to miss the IPL but hopefully, there are opportunities ahead for that and don’t think I’d ever be able to live with missing the birth of my first kid.

The overseas cricketers are all reaching UAE since the last week to join their squads. The Proteas have landed and are also among the few international players to have reached and begin training with their respective squads. While the Indian players had reached before them, all squads have started training as well. The players are put under mandatory 6-day quarantine after which if they test negative they can start training with the group. The English and Australian players will join the IPL squad after the bilateral series between the two countries that is being held in England.

Apart from Richardson, Mumbai Indians ace bowler Lasith Malinga has also pulled out from the IPL due to personal reasons just like Suresh Raina of Chennai Super Kings.
