As Punjab Kings commence their campaign opener on March 23 against Delhi Capitals, we reminisce about the different captaincy routes the franchise has undergone.

Several captains have taken up the mantle of leading the PBKS brigade into action, each having varying captaincy styles and ideas. Below we present the IPL seasons and their respective Punjab Kings IPL captains. Yuvraj Singh captained the Punjab franchise in their inaugural 2008 IPL season and led them to the semi-finals. The franchise was captained by Yuvraj in the 2008 IPL and 2009 IPL seasons before dropping the baton. Adam Gilchrist then took over from 2011-2013; he led the team to a record comprising of wins and losses.

George Bailey’s captaincy from 2014-2015 rewarded the franchise with a final chance in 2014. Mayank Agarwal was appointed the Punjab Kings captain following KL Rahul’s departure in the 2022 season. The said captain’s league strewed the team to finish sixth. Glenn Maxwell’s 2017 captaincy saw the Punjab Kings register an equal number of wins and losses in all their encounters.

As Punjab Kings start tallying their captain in another IPL journey in 2024, the chosen captain Shikhar Dhawan leaves a lot to be excited for by the fans.
