Indian batsman Mayank Agarwal feels relaxed and comfortable for the upcoming mega auction of the Indian Premier League as the key player has been retained by the Punjab Kings franchise for ₹ 12 crores. The franchise seems to have a strong belief in the opening batsman.
In an episode of ‘Auction Reels’ held by journalist Mr. Boria Majumdar, Mayank opened up about his thoughts for the upcoming IPL auctions. Mayank stated that this year the auctions might not be as tense for him compared to other auctions held before as being retained by the old franchise have comforted and relaxed him from the nervous thoughts about getting selected in the top league game. Mayank further stated that the team along with Mayank will be thinking about whom to buy and how to make a perfect team, keeping in mind what players bring in. Adding on Mayank says that the auctions provide the teams with a lot of potential players and Punjab Kings is planning to buy the expected players they will be looking for. Mayank concludes by sharing his excitement of getting retained and also quoted that it will be a calmer auction for him compared to any of the auctions held before.
“I will sit back, relax and enjoy the auction’” said Mayank Agarwal in the interview.
Mayank can probably lead team Punjab Kings as ₹12 crores worth player has the potential to manage a team with the franchise he is already playing for. Punjab Kings too would be looking for Mayank to captain unless the management has a different thought which will be witnessed in the auctions. With KL Rahul not being in the team or the list of retained players, Mayank being the experienced player in IPL as well a veteran performer for Punjab Kings have greater responsibilities and role this year.
Mayank Agarwal has been called up by the BCCI for the upcoming white-ball series against West Indies in Ahmedabad and Kolkata since the COVID outbreak in the Indian camp seems to have no substitute choice of an opening batsman as Shikhar Dhawan and reserved opener Ruturaj has been tested positive for COVID-19. Shreyas Iyer too has been tested positive along with multiple staff members of the Indian team.
