India will not be touring New Zealand later this year due to an already packed calendar and COVID-19 related restrictions. India would have had to quarantine for 14 days to play three One Dayers as part of the World Cup Super League.
A New Zealand Cricket spokesperson confirmed this news to the Stuff that the Indian tour will take place after the T20 World Cup in Australia next year. New Zealand, anyway, is scheduled to play two Tests and three T20s in India, after the T20 World Cup in November. New Zealand will host Bangladesh, Netherlands and South Africa in the summer along with hosting seven teams in the Women’s World Cup which will take place from March-April. The test matches against Bangladesh and South Africa are a part of the World Test Championship of 2021-23. NZC Chief David White said that they will be mindful of players coming back from a long winter and want to give them time at home as well.
The Blackcaps will undergo a mandatory 14 day managed isolation and quarantine after returning home from India, just before Christmas. Hence, there will probably be no Boxing Day test on the 26th of December against Bangladesh and the first test could be pushed to the 28th of December or later. For now, they are preparing for their matches against Pakistan. The ODI series will begin later this week. They already faced a big blow due to the news of Tom Blundell’s injury. He will miss the entire ODI series but may just be available for the T20I’s. He is being replaced by all-rounder Daryl Mitchell.
