Indian cricket star Rinku Singh is mourning the loss of his father, Khachandra Singh, who passed away early Friday morning after a prolonged battle with stage-4 liver cancer. The 28-year-old middle-order batter received the heartbreaking news while India are competing in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in the UAE and Sri Lanka.
Khachandra Singh had been undergoing treatment at Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida for several weeks, with his condition deteriorating sharply in recent days. According to reports, he was on ventilator support in his final days as doctors fought to stabilise him, but he ultimately succumbed to the advanced illness.
Rinku, who had flown home from India’s World Cup camp in Chennai earlier this week due to a family emergency, was by his father’s side during the difficult period. His departure from the team had raised questions about his availability for India’s Super 8 fixture against Zimbabwe, although he rejoined the squad shortly afterwards.
