Washington Sundar played an extraordinary inning of 85-runs on the fourth day of the first Test between India and England and helped India to score 337-runs in the first inning. The day started when Ashwin was at 8 and Sundar was at 33. However, India lost their last three batsmen in just a span of 10 overs.
Ashwin also played an important inning of 31-runs and get trapped by the spinner Jack Leach. Jack Leach picked two wickets without giving India enough chance to add runs on the board. Nadeem lost his wicket just after Ashwin and unable to add any run for the team.
Sundar played an inning of 85-runs in 138 balls with the help of 12 boundaries and 2 sixes. Root’s plan to set fielder at the slip and mid-on worked as Ishant and Nadeem lost their wicket because of field pressure. India was 42-runs away from avoiding the follow-on.
However, England has not enforced the follow on. They will have a bat and look to set a target close to 400. As expected it was the new ball that did the damage for the visitors. All four wickets coming after the second new ball was taken with Leach and Anderson picking a couple of wickets each. England openers have a minimum of two overs to play out before lunch. We will be back shortly..
