Indian young wicket-keeper carried his form in the first Test against England in Chennai. He scored 91 runs in just 88 balls and keeps alive the hopes of team Indian in the match. The former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar praised Rishabh Pant for his fearless approach against Jack Leach in Chennai. He termed the Indian star as an exhilarating player.
Rishabh Pant put up a must required partnership with Cheteshwar Pujara and helped India to stay in the match. The 23-years old played attacking cricket against England’s bowlers but eventually lost his wicket to Dom Bess. Gavaskar also advised the wicket-keeper batsman to find the right balance between being careless and carefree to add more consistency in his game.
“He (Pant) has always been an exhilarating player. He can be annoying in the sense we all want to see him carry and bat because he gives so much enjoyment with the way he plays. What happens with Rishabh Pant is there is always that very thin line between being carefree and careless. Once he realizes what is that little line between being carefree and careless, he will be a lot more consistent,” said Gavaskar on Star Sports.
“It was fantastic to watch him take on Jack Leach because he didn’t want to settle down. It’s a partnership; he recognizes he can be dangerous to the right-hander He is trying to throw him off by affecting his confidence,” added Gavaskar.
