After early blows threatened to end their session on the first morning of the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Test series, Australia was able to recover thanks to an unbeaten 74-run partnership between Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne.
Marnus Labuschagne played a critical innings and looked fine to cross his half century in no time but veteran all-rounder’s dominating comeback restricted Marnus to 49 runs as he departed after KS Bharat’s beautiful stumping which resulted in “OUT”
Commentary: Labuschagne, who always looked great, has departed with 49 runs Labuschagne is drawn into the drive by a little bit more flight from Jadeja’s delivery, but despite the big stretch forward, he is not up to the pitch of it.
The next ball after Labuschagne was departed, Renshaw was given the “LBW” out in his very first delivery of the day.
Commentary: The long-standing alliance is shattered, and the new batter was immediately devoured! Jadeja is 2 for 2! He hits a fuller length on middle from around the wicket, adding more turn to his shot. Renshaw tries to flick it away but is beaten by the turn and is struck on the pad. Renshaw took the review after the umpire Nitin Menon raised his finger right away, but the only contact was a leg stump clip, so the call stood.
