Virat Kohli – The modern-day chase master, had surprised the cricket fraternity with his shocking decision to resign from Test captaincy. It was all started from the T20 captaincy of Kohli and after the absurd campaign of Men in blue – things had been not right in the dressing room.
According to the reports and statements from Salman Butt and Shoaib Akhtar, there were two groups in the team one with Kohli and one against Kohli. That’s it, with the pressure to perform and able to maintain his captaincy. Kohli has decided to quit his captaincy one after another.
After the series defeat against South Africa, Virat Kohli has taken his social media and confirmed the news of quitting the Test captaincy. Now after the news, former Indian batsman, Gautam Gambhir says run machine, Kohli needs to focus on his batting now.
In the third Test match, against Rainbow nation, the skipper has played the solid knock under immense pressure which also indicated his return back to basics. Gambhir also stated that captaincy is not someone “birthright” and Kohli needs to focus on ahead of white-ball fixtures against South Africa.
Gambhir has also special mention to captain cool,
“What’s else our expectations from the player? Captaincy is not someone’s birthright and a skipper like Dhoni gave up the post to Kohli in 2014-15. Dhoni has also played alongside and under Virat’s leadership. Dhoni has 3 ICC tournaments and 4 IPL trophies in his cabinet,” Gambhir highlighted in interaction with star sports.
Gambhir has also said, playing for the nation needs to be a top priority. And, that sums up the player role for the country.
“After quitting the captaincy, Kohli needs to focus and be aware of his decent batting form of recent times. While playing for the nation, there is no template that you have to be captain. It’s just that you don’t go out there for toss and adjust the field restrictions according to you. But such perspective doesn’t affect your energy and intensity while playing for the nation,” Gambhir narrates in an interaction.
