Former Indian skipper to mentor Afghanistan in the 2023 ODI World Cup

Former Indian skipper Ajay Jadeja will be seen mentoring the Afghan boys during the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023. The Afghanistan Board of Cricket (ACB) has confirmed Jadeja’s role as the mentor for the team. The former Indian star comes with a lot of experience and deep knowledge on how to play in Indian conditions. This might give Afghanistan an upper hand in the tournament.

Jadeja has impressive ODI stats of 5359 runs in 196 matches, including six tons and 30 half centuries. He was also a part of the Indian World Cup squad in 1992, 1996, and 1999. Jadeja, who is known for his stunning catch in the 1992 World Cup, dismissed Allan Border during their match against Australia.

Afghanistan couldn’t even play a ball in their first warm-up game against South Africa due to heavy rain. They will be seen in action against Sri Lanka in their second warm-up game in Guwahati. The Afghan boys will face their Asian rivals, Bangladesh, in the opening match of the tournament. Both teams will fight for an opening win at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.
