Former India captain Mohammed Azharuddin expects star India opener Rohit Sharma to “take his place” and make everyone proud in the 2nd T20I against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Strikingly, the 33-year-old was refreshed in the first T20I which India lost by 8 wickets on Friday. Openers Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul had bombed hopelessly as India figured out how to score just 124 runs in 20 overs.
In the pre-match question and answer session Virat Kohli had said that Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul will open the batting for India yet at the throw on the following day he swindled everybody uncovering that Dhawan will play open with KL Rahul.
“We were planning to do things like batting first in these conditions where bowling in the dew becomes a factor. It’s a good way to prepare for the World Cup. The next few months will be important from a team environment. Rohit is resting for the first couple of games,” Virat Kohli had said.
“Looking forward to India playing their best XI this evening. Expect to see @ImRo45 take his place as opener and make us all proud. Very Excited to see this cracker of a T20 match,” Azharuddin wrote on Twitter.
