Katherine Brunt, an experienced fast bowler, will sit out for the next limited overs series against India. The 14-person squad for the series, which begins on September 10, now includes Lauren Bell, 21, who was the second-highest wicket-taker at The Hundred.
Before the South Africa series, 37-year-old Brunt announced his retirement from Test cricket. Since then, she has played for the Trent Rockets in The Hundred’s second season and at the Commonwealth Games. Brunt’s absence was not a clue that Brunt was about to retire, according to Lisa Keightley, head coach of the England Women.
“After discussions with Katherine she felt the best thing for her was to rest across both the T20 and ODI series. We fully support that decision with a view to maximising her mental and physical recovery off the back of what has been an intense year so far.”
