It appears as if the headlines follow the Indian allrounder, Hardik Pandya, everywhere he goes. After a dismal performance in IPL followed by the T20 World Cup, Hardik landed in Mumbai on Sunday and got covered in another headline. This time it was not his game that has caught everyone’s attention. Instead, two of his watches that the Customs officers ceased at the Mumbai Airport have made all the ruckus.
According to a report by TNN, the customs officers at CSMI airport put a hold on two luxury watches of Patek Phillipe company. The action was taken after the officials discovered a discrepancy in the serial number mentioned in the invoices presented to them. Hardik Pandya has claimed the watches to be preowned ones. He has declared the prices of the watches to not more than 1.8 crore – the customs officers, on the other, have said that a new watch of the same brand will cost around 5 crores.
Pandya has openly refuted this claim and came out with a statement about the same on his official handle of Twitter. The allrounder wrote, “The cost of the watches is approximately Rs. 1.5 crore and not Rs. 5 crore as per the rumors floating around in social media. I am a law-abiding citizen of the country, and I respect all government agencies… and I have assured my full cooperation.”
TNN’s sources have claimed that Pandya will be required to rectify the discrepancy present in the documents. Upon that, he will also have to pay 38% duty attached to the product otherwise, the customs department will seize his watches.
