The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to address the recent controversy involving former cricketer Allan Donald, who expressed his disappointment over Bangladesh skipper Shakib al Hasan’s appeal for a ‘timed out’ dismissal against Sri Lankan cricketer Angelo Mathews. Mathews became the first player in international cricket history to be dismissed in this manner during the Sri Lanka-Bangladesh 2023 World Cup game.
The incident occurred when Mathews, after the dismissal of Sadeera Samarawickrama, found that the strap of his helmet was broken. While waiting for a replacement helmet, Shakib appealed for a ‘timed out’ dismissal. Despite Mathews’ attempts to explain the situation, the appeal was upheld, leading to widespread criticism and disappointment.
In response to the incident, Allan Donald expressed his disapproval, emphasizing the importance of respect and dignity in the game. He highlighted the need for players to handle such situations with sportsmanship, suggesting that a more understanding approach would have been appropriate.
BCB officials have taken notice of Donald’s comments and expressed their intention to seek clarification from him. They view the incident seriously and plan to address the matter promptly. However, they are cautious about distracting the team as they prepare for their crucial game against Australia, a match that could secure their spot in the next ICC Champions Trophy, considering the top seven teams in the points table will qualify for the tournament along with hosts Pakistan.
