Indian players have been at the receiving end as the SCG crowd hurled racial abuse towards them. The incident broke out at the end of the third day of the third test. Indian pacers Jasprit Bumrah and the debutant of this series, Mohammed Siraj accused the crowd at the SCG stadium were abusing them and making racist comments against them. Indian management was furious as they lodged an official complaint to the ICC and made Cricket Australia aware of the incident. Cricket Australia released their official statement soon after stating their Zero-tolerance policy for such incidents and was apologetic to the Indian team.
Ex-cricketers and cricket experts expressed their disappointment about this incident. Ex-Australian players too said that this is intolerable and the visitors need to be respected. Many Indian cricketers took on Twitter to talk about the incident ad express their disappointment about the incident. Indian full-time skipper also gave out his statement about the incident and criticized the crowd. He went on to call this behaviour of the crowd as ‘ROWDY’. He called for strict action and get the culprits straight.
The incident needs to be looked at with absolute urgency and seriousness and strict action against the offenders should set things straight for once.
