Speaking on his YouTube channel, de Villiers praised Rohit’s leadership and batting prowess, emphasizing the crucial role he played in India’s Champions Trophy final victory against New Zealand. “Why would Rohit Sharma retire? With that kind of record, not only as captain but also as a batter. That 76 in the final, giving India a fantastic start, laying the foundation for success and leading from the front when the pressure was at its peak,” de Villiers said.

Rohit, who has been instrumental in India’s white-ball dominance, was widely speculated to step away from ODIs to focus on T20Is and Tests. However, after leading India to their first ICC trophy since 2013, he reaffirmed his commitment to the format. He made it clear in the press conference that will continue in the format and will try to play as long as he can.
