The Indian shuttler ended as runner-up at the All England Open where he lost to World No. 1 and reigning Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen with a score of 10-21, 15-21. He came past the men’s singles gold medalist at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games World No. 7 Lee Zii Jia in the semifinals to reach the last two in England. The 20-year-old ‘s stunning performance powered him to break into the Top-10 BWF World Rankings.
Meanwhile, Indian women’s doubles pair Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly jumped massive 12 spots to reach No. 34 in the latest BWF Rankings. The duo made it to the semifinals of the tournament. Gayatri Gopichand is the daughter of former badminton player P.V.V Lakshmi and legendary Pullela Gopichand, who is the only one from India other than Prakash Padukone to win the title at the All England Open.
