India on Sunday made history by winning its first ever Thomas Cup in badminton after beating Indonesia by 3-0. After reaching their first-ever final. India faced Indonesia, the most successful team in Thomas Cup history, in Bangkok on Sunday.

India had never reached the final of the Thomas and Uber Cup in its 73-year history, but the Indian men not only broke the drought, but also became only the sixth nation to win the Thomas Cup, joining China, Indonesia, Japan, Denmark, and Malaysia.

After defeating Indonesia’s Anthony Ginting in the first match, Lakshya Sen gave India a 1-0 lead. Sen came back from an 8-21 deficit in the first set to win the second, before overcoming a four-point deficit in the third.

Kidambi Srikanth defeated Jonatan Christie in straight games 21-15, 23-21 to help India win. The title without losing a single match. Earlier, Satwiksairaj Rankireddey and Chirag Shetty defeated Mohammad Ahsan and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo 18-21, 23-21, 21-19 to give India a 2-0 lead.

Indonesia finally beat

It is now time for Indonesia to collect its silver medals. This was Indonesia’s 21st final at the mega event, and the team has the most titles with 14. Today, however, it faced an Indian team that fought back. After every blow and eventually turned it around to deliver the knockout punch.

In the 2021 edition of the Thomas Cup. Indonesia defeated defending champions China to win the title for the 14th time.
