Coetzee comes in as Payne replacement
Sunrisers Hyderabad have signed Gerald Coetzee as a replacement for David Payne, who is out with an ankle injury after two matches. Coetzee, unsold at the auction, joins for INR 2 crore. He has previous IPL experience with Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans, taking 15 wickets in 14 games.
The 25-year-old has also featured regularly for South Africa in recent months. He was part of their T20 World Cup squad and played in the series against New Zealand that followed. His arrival adds depth to an attack that has relied heavily on inexperienced names so far. Whether he comes straight into the XI remains unclear.
SRH vs CSK – selection calls in focus
SRH face Chennai Super Kings in Hyderabad later today inz nigaht game with selection in focus. Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain impressed in the last match, both picking up wickets and holding their lines. That makes an immediate debut for Coetzee uncertain despite his experience.
Pat Cummins has joined the squad but will only be available from the next game. For now, SRH are likely to back the same group that delivered in their previous outing.
Both sides come into this game looking to build on recent wins. SRH sit mid-table and need consistency, while CSK are trying to recover from an uneven start. Conditions in Hyderabad are expected to favour batting again, keeping the margin for error small.
