Union Budget 2024: Provision of ₹1.48 lakh crore made for education, employment, and skilling

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is presenting the Union Budget 2024 today. This is her seventh time handling the country’s finances. This year, however, the political backdrop is different as India no longer has a majority government for the first time in over a decade.

The budget for 2024-25 proposes an allocation of ₹1.48 lakh crore for education, employment, and skilling. Sitharaman emphasized the need to focus on four key areas: the poor, women, youth, and farmers. For farmers, the budget includes higher Minimum Support Prices for major crops, ensuring a 50% margin over cost. The PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana has also been extended for another five years, benefiting over 80 crore people.
