Sanjay Gupta announces web-series on ‘Baby Patankar’; journey from milk vendor to drug queen

The Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta is known for his crime dramas based on real-life stories and now he is all set for his next project on  Shashikala Patankar, who is also known as Baby Patankar, He will be making a web series on the story of a milk vendor, who went on to create a successful drug regime in Mumbai.

Sanjay Gupta announced on Twitter, “On the auspicious occasion of Lohri it gives me great pride and joy to announce our web series based on the life of BABY PATANKAR. The astonishing true story of a household maid who created and controlled the biggest narcotics empire in Mumbai.”

Shashikala Patankar traded marijuana and brown sugar in Mumbai and went on to acquire great wealth by dealing in Mephedrone – popularly called ‘meow meow’. Over 30 years, Patankar owned 22 properties in Mumbai and had Rs 1.2 crore in fixed deposits. Sanjay Gupta has reportedly bought the rights of her story and a female writer is penning down her tale. However, the makers are yet to finalise the cast for this series, which will be co-directed by Sanjay Gupta and Samit Kakkad.

He also added, “I have been waiting for the right material to come by. This is India’s Narcos story waiting to be told,” tells Gupta, who will serve as the creator-producer on the 10-part series. He will also co-direct the Bhushan Kumar-backed offering with Samit Kakkad.
