Actor Prateik Babbar recently celebrated his birthday with close friends and family members. His girlfriend Priya Banerjee took to her Instagram account and shared a cosy picture of both of them. The actor resides in a sea-facing apartment in Bandra which was gifted by his mother actress Smita Patil.
In a recent conversation with the Bombay Times, Prateik revealed his early life with addiction and rehab. The actor said, “Addiction is a disease. I almost lost myself,” he says. At the age of 18, Prateik was “tricked” by his family to a rehabilitation center. “I was obnoxious, nobody could talk to me. I was always intoxicated. So, they had to trick me to get into rehab. And rehab was difficult. I remember waking up in a rehab in a bed, in a straitjacket. I was just screaming, crying,” as reported by Bombay Times.
He stated that at the age of 18, it was difficult for him. It was all dark and suicidal and he wanted to be with his grandmother and mother and it was painful.
Prateik expressed that when the second time drugs re-entered his life, he was 25. He shares about his heartbreak that happened at that time with actress Amy Jackson. The actor remarked that life has been unfair to him in many ways. It took away the most precious emotion a child can have.
The Ekk Deewana Tha star shared about the projects he fell out of just because of addiction. “I felt like the industry was being unfair to me. When I slipped back to self-destruction the films were getting shelved as I was too drugged up to say my dialogues or show up on set. Then I had a slump in my career. Everything was just so fast, I didn’t understand. It was overwhelming for me. Everything, the politics, the vices, and then I crashed, everything came crumbling down,” as reported by Bombay Times.
Pratik married Sanya Sagar in the year 2019 but they got divorced in 2019. He said it was heartbreaking and complicated. Although he didn’t share the real reason for the separation, it seems like things didn’t work out for him and his ex-wife. Though he feels grateful that everything happened the right way, that’s why he met Priya Banerjee, his girlfriend.
The actor states that he is blessed to have Priya in his life. They have been seeing each other since 2020 and have finally made their relationship official.
