BSF reports normal border situation despite Bangladesh curfew and military takeover

A senior BSF officer has confirmed that the situation at the India-Bangladesh border remains normal, despite recent upheaval in Bangladesh.

Amid the ongoing political crisis and military takeover in Bangladesh, a senior Border Security Force (BSF) officer has assured that the situation along the India-Bangladesh border remains stable. The officer reported that the BSF is in constant communication with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to monitor the situation and ensure border security.

The current turmoil in Bangladesh, which began with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and subsequent military intervention, has led to significant domestic unrest. The military coup, which saw the armed forces taking control of key government installations, has triggered a curfew in Dhaka and other major cities. This curfew has severely restricted movement and caused disruptions in daily life.

As a result of the curfew, traffic movement at Integrated Check Posts (ICPs) along the India-Bangladesh border has been affected. The restrictions are primarily due to the reduced flow of traffic and heightened security measures in Bangladesh, which have impacted cross-border trade and travel. Despite these challenges, the BSF has reported no significant incidents or breaches at the border, thanks to effective coordination with the BGB.

The BSF’s continued contact with the BGB aims to ensure that any potential issues are swiftly addressed and to maintain a secure and stable border environment. The situation remains under close observation as the political crisis in Bangladesh evolves and the interim government works to restore order.

The international community and local authorities are keeping a close watch on the developments, hoping for a peaceful resolution to the crisis and minimal impact on regional stability.
